PROGRAMME PERFORMERS TICKETS ORGANIZERS CONTEST SYMPOSIUM CONTACTS
FIRST FESTIVAL

The 7th Symposium of the ICTM, UNESCO
Baku, March-2011
within the framework of theInternational Music Festival
“Space of Mugam”
Baku, March 14-21, 2011

In the previous six meetings of the Study Group “Maqam” of the ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music, UNESCO) fundamental problems of the maqam phenomenon and many historical aspects of corresponding regional music traditions have been described and discussed. The results of these efforts have extended and deepened the knowledge and understanding of the maqam phenomenon considerably. The contributions of the specialists were published in collections: Berlin 1989, Berlin 1992, Tampere 1997, Istanbul - Berlin 2006, Samarkand - Berlin 2008, and Urumqi 2009.
Nevertheless we cannot ignore that the realization of the multifarious personal, local and regional traditions, its history, constructive foundations and mutual relations is not quite reached yet. This is one of the reasons why the 7th Meeting of the Study Group “Maqam” will be focused on the Azerbaijanian mugamat which can refer to a deep-rooted history and crossregional spread.
